Timeline of the Clarinet.
Late 1600's- The Clarinet made its debut. But originally, it wasn't called a 'Clarinet' it was called a 'Chalumeau'. When the Clarinet had appeared, it had one and a half octave range.
1701- Johann Christoph Denner(The creator of the Clarinet) and his son Jacob made big changes to the Clarinet. He created the register key, which let the Clarinet hit higher notes. That became the structure for the Clarinet.
1749- The Clarinet made an appearance in Paris.
1751- It was introduced in London, England.
Late 1700's- Some more changes were made, like making more keys, a different cut and all new tone holes. Iwan Muller made a thirteen key Clarinet.
Late 1800's- The thirteen key Clarinet became unpopular.
1832- The Boehm fingering system was first introduced, which came from the flute. That model of the Clarinet is the most well known. That system is also on the oboe and saxophone.
1843- The Boehm Clarinet was first made, it had included 17 keys, rings that you could move, needle spring and the wooden body.
