Information about the Alto Clarinet
The Alto Clarinet, also known as the Tenor Clarinet was created in the 19th century. The bell and the neck of the Clarinet make it look more like a Saxophone then a Clarinet, and it is longer then the Basset Clarinet. It is very unusual for an Alto Clarinet to be in an Orchastra, but it is used in bands and clarinet choirs. In Chamber music formation, the Alto Clarinet sometimes is used instead of the Alto Sax.
Sadly, the Alto Clarinet is rarely used because it isn't much needed in orchestras.
